• Chikan Embroidery •

Chikan is a traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, India. It is believed to be introduced by Nur Jehan, the wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir. It is one of India's and Lucknow's best known textile decoration styles and has firm presence in global fashion arena. The craft Chikan is over 400 years old and technique of its creation is called Chikankari.

Traditionally it was done on Muslin cloth, white thread on white fabric, but today it can be seen on various fabrics and colors.

Lucknow Chikan embroidery is highly time consuming and skilled work for which artisans can be trained for up to 20 years. Depending on the pattern intricacy and size of the piece, the embroidery process alone can take up to 10 days - 4 months to complete.
